The island is one of highlights of visiting Australia. If you have been ‘down under,’ and not touched down upon this sandy mass of land just off the coast of Brisbane then you have not really done Oz in my opinion.
Amongst the largest sand islands in the world, the place is a natural phenomena, that due to the growth a unique type of moss is actually covered in vegetation despite being comprised mostly of sand and volcanic rock.
The place is genuinely stunning and fits the picture of what paradise should look like. It’s like being on the set of Lost.
Definitely worth a trip, and if you do go, make sure to visit the wreck of the old World War II hospital ship, Maheno. Breathtaking.
